Ahead of Canada’s opening match at the 2015 Cyprus Cup, head coach John Herdman spoke to the media and provided updates on a number of topics.

John Herdman on his group heading into the Cyprus Cup:

“We’re on a bit of a roll. We’re unbeaten in six and in Cyprus I hope we can keep that roll going. It’s great for the confidence of our players.”

John Herdman on getting his roster ready for June:

“We’ve been working for the last three years to get the right group of players together and build the structure and tactics that fit that group.”

“We haven’t written anyone off. The door is always open.”

John Herdman on Diana Matheson’s ACL injury:

“She’s one of the most resilient women that I’ve ever met. If anyone can get back in time, Diana can. Her recovery is ahead of schedule at this stage. We all have our fingers crossed.”

He also discussed Lauren Sesselmann’s injury and stated that “she’s almost there”. He said he hopes to have her back training with the team in April, as they prepare for a friendly against France on the 9th.

Additionally, while he wouldn’t confirm their opponent or location, he did say Canada will host a friendly at the end of May. He said they would “reveal that in time”.
