Notes:

This Group A match has turned into a “must win” for both sides and getting the three points is very crucial. Canada lost their opener to Ghana 1:0, while Finland was defeated by Korea DPR 1:2.

Canada and Finland have met once at the U-20 Women’s World Cup. That was a group stage match during the 2006 edition of the tournament. Canada won 2:0.

Finland had a strong showing on their road to Canada, by reaching the semi-finals of the 2013 UEFA U-19 Women’s Championship. The blue and white went through the opening round of the tournament unbeaten and finished second behind Germany.

Going into this match, midfielder Ashley Lawrence has Canada’s only yellow card, which was picked up versus Ghana.

Japanese referee Sachiko Yamagishi will be at the helm for this match. She’ll be joined by two Australian assistants and the fourth official is from Cameroon.

This marks Canada’s last match in Toronto. Saturday is a travel day and they’ll have their first training session in Montreal on Sunday.

Quotes:

Canadian head coach Andrew Olivieri
“Against Finland, it will be do or die, and we have to learn to adapt to the other team’s style of play.”

“Playing a World Cup at home, it’s not too much pressure for my players, but it’s a new pressure. And they’ll have to learn to live with it in this tournament, and to win the important games despite this pressure.”

Finnish head coach Marianne Miettinen
“We need wins now if we we want to qualify and I’m sure we have the quality to get them.”
