CanWNT v Germany on the horizon

One of the most memorable Canada v Germany tilts came during the 2011 Women’s World Cup. The tournament’s opening match saw the red and white score on a stunning free kick by captain Christine Sinclair, but ultimately, Canada lost 2:1.

Broadcast details:
Sportsnet One
22.00 ET / 20.00 MT / 19.00 PT

Notes:

The Canadian roster includes a number of U-20 Women’s World Cup hopefuls in Kadeisha Buchanan, Sura Yekka, Rebecca Quinn, Jessie Fleming and Ashley Lawrence. Buchanan, Quinn and Lawrence are already in Vancouver, after taking part in U-20 camp under head coach Andrew Olivieri.

Forward Christina Julien returns for the first time since June 2013. She spent the last year playing professionally in Australia and Germany.

Veteran defenders Emily Zurrer and Marie-Eve Nault have left their respective teams in Sweden’s Dalmallsvenskan to prepare for the match.

Although Christine Sinclair and German GK Nadine Angerer have faced one another many times before, this will mark the first time they play against each other while also being professional teammates.

This match will mark the 12th meeting between the sides, dating back to 1994. Canada has never beat Germany.

During a match in 2005 against the Germans, Sinclair scored her 50th international goal.
