Canada inching closer to U-17 Women’s World Cup

The U-17 Women’s World Cup is less than two months away, which means the final preparations are beginning to unfold. A group of 29 players is currently in Florida for camp, which runs until January 28th.

The roster features 15-year-old Jessie Fleming, who made her senior team debut in December at the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino in Brazil. She earned two caps at the tournament, one as a starter and another as a substitute. There’s a good chance Fleming will play in two international tournaments this year. She’s on the radar to take part in the U-20 Women’s World Cup, which Canada’s hosting in the summer.

Costa Rica is hosting the 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup. Canada’s first game is scheduled for March 15th against powerhouse Germany, who won the U-17 UEFA Women’s World Championship in December.

Head Coach Bev Priestman is leading this group, along with longtime national player, Candace Chapman.
